A rational number is a number that can be in the form
p/q , where p and q are integers and q is not equal to zero.

– Let’s start with the number 6.
The number 6 is an integer. It’s also a rational
number. Why?
Because 6 can also be expressed as 6/1.
When expressed as 6, both the numerator and the
denominator are integers. The
denominator doesn’t equal 0.
What about the number -6?
-6 can be written as -6/1. Or 6/-1.
Either way, -6 is a rational number, because it can be
expressed as a fraction where the numerator and denominator are integers and
the denominator doesn’t equal 0.
